Overview
As of 13 March 2016, the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the UN Mission in South Sudan’s Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu is 116,538. The first March 2016 population count was held in Bentiu PoC from 11 -13 March 2016.
Compared to the previous count conducted at the end of February, the population decreased from 119,647 individuals to 116,538 individuals, despite registering more than 1,000 new arrivals between the two counts.
The reason for the drop in population could be attributed to the relative presence of peace outside the PoC which may have encouraged free movement of IDPs to nearby villages.
